Draft Grades By Bradley

BBY Dream Team 2020

BBY Dream Team League enters year 12.  Moose has dominated winning back to back titles and has noq won the championship 4 times, double the next closest person.  Thank all of you for joining the draft this past Sunday.  I know times have been tough for everyone and there’s a lot of adversity out there.  Some have lost loved ones.  Some have gained loved ones.  I know in the past I’ve made jokes involving race, but I will not be doing so moving forward.  I’ll just stick to making fun of your fantasy teams.  I will tell you this though.  Being part of the Dream Team back at Best Buy with you guys was a model of teamwork.  Where it didn’t matter where you came from or what you looked like.  Just that you were slinging product, services, and accessories.  Simpler times indeed.

  1. Mike Grote- Mike won the CMC lottery.  He was a cheat code last year, finishing with 443.2 fantasy points.  The number 2 running back finished with 313.6 points.  I’m fairly certain that was the widest margin of any #1 vs. #2 fantasy running back ever.  In the second Mike went with George Kittle, Saints Destroyer.  Many analysts have him projected over Travis Kelce in their rankings.  Most likely due to the fact that Kelce has been on top so long.  Eventually he’ll have to drop right?  Then Mike drafted David Johnson to start the 3rd round.  There was one running back I had ranked higher than David Johnson amongst who was left at this point and his name is James Conner.  This may be Mike’s Mixon moment, but we’ll see (Last year Mike drafted Mixon over Dalvin Cook).  DJ should get some volume, but lose some pass catching ability to Duke Johnson.  We know Bill O’Brien will force him the ball and take over the Carlos Hyde role from a year ago.  But I had him ranked a bit lower than the beast wideouts and Qb’s that were available at this turn.  At the 4/5 turn Mike got the AFC South abbreviation combo of AJ Brown and TY Hilton.  (While I was typing this draft grade I was holding Anna and she took a giant poop, so we know how she feels about Mike’s team).  I think Brown and Hilton will both be solid.  Good volume from both and makes you feel better about getting Rb2 at the 2/3 turn albeit the wrong one.  At the 6/7 turn you got Deebo Samuel and Kyler Murray.  I like the Deebo pick.  Reports out of camp say his foot isn’t as bad as say an Alshon Jeffrey or AJ Green foot issue.  Maybe because he is younger.  But he should be clearcut #1 for San Fran once fully healthy.   I didn’t like the Kyler pick as much.  Not that I don’t like Kyler this season, it’s just Dak Prescott will finish QB#3 or better this season.  Murray should be solid, but Dak was the correct pick.  Both Wilson and Dak (And my backup) will finish better than Kyler Murray this season.  You shored up some Rb depth at 8/9 with Jordan Howard and Latavius Murray.  If Kamara does wind up holding out you have a RB running behind the best line in football.  Breida will probably get more yards than Howard, but he’ll be decent as a flyer for touchdowns and a good depth piece in case Breida gets hurt again.  Rest of the draft was pretty standard.  Got D/ST, Kicker, few flyer wideouts.  Not bad.

Draft Grade: B.  Couldn’t give A due to David Johnson and Kyler Murray picks over James Conner and Dak Prescott.

  • Jen.  Jen gets the running back with tree trunks for legs.  Over Barkley’s last three weeks last season he averaged 33.1 fantasy points per game.  Which is why his ADP is 2 and not 3.  In the 2nd round Jen took DeAndre Hopkins.  Hopkins is one of many wideouts in Arizona and will have the least amount of repour with Kyler Murray.  He is also in the middle of a contract dispute, further muddying his draft value.  As much as I didn’t want him on my team, he is still a monster wideout and we’ll see what happens.  Loved DJ Moore pick in the 3rd.  I personally would have done Thielen over Moore, but Moore is solid.  Joe Brady running offense with Teddy Bridgewater throwing the ball.  Moore will be a consistent wideout for you.  Loved the Zach Ertz pick in Round 4.  Eagles are without Alshon Jeffrey and Jalen Reagor to open the season, Wentz will rely on Ertz early and often this season.  In the 5th Jen drafted Devin Singletary.  He’s the starter in Buffalo as of right now, but word is he did not have a good camp with many fumbling issues.  Looks to be more likely than not that Zach Moss will take over this backfield at some point.  Taking him over Swift, Gibson, Metcalf, Ridley, Locket, Chark is pretty rough.  In the 6th you took Deshaun Watson.  Should be a lot of fun to watch with Brandin Cooks, Will Fuller, Randall Cobb, and Kenny Stills catching passes from him.  I had Dak ranked over him, but Deshaun is a solid selection.  Then you paired him with Brandin Cooks.  Cooks, like Fuller, will be good while you have him.  I think one concussion and he’s done for the year.  He’s simply had too many of them.  But if he stays healthy, he’s been known to get 1000 yard seasons no matter where he plays.  In the 8 you took Darell Henderson.  He’s a little banged up, but we don’t know how the Rams backfield will shake out post-Gurley.  CeeDee Lamb in the 9th is fun.  I was so thankful the Falcons didn’t draft him.  Cowboys offense is pretty damn potent.  There will be weeks where Lamb tears it up.  Decent depth with Burrow and  Boston Scott in later rounds.

Draft Grade: B-.  I think the team has some potential, but Singletary, Hopkins, Cooks scare me a bit as key core members of the team.  Would not be surprised if Boston Scott and CeeDee Lamb wind up in the starting lineup sooner rather than later.

  • Tommy.  ZEKE.  I thought Tommy might grab Derrick Henry here given his ties to the Tennessee Titans, but no, he went Chalk and got Zeke at 3.  Can’t blame him.  He is a high volume running back on a very good offense.  Solid pick.  In the second he went Kenny Golladay who wouldn’t be my first choice.  I had Thielen, Moore, and Juju ranked higher, but he was a top 5 wideout last year despite having some Qb named Blough throwing him the ball for half the season.  If Stafford could stay healthy, could be a great value.  In the 3rd he got Adam Theilen giving him a great Wr duo.  In 2018 you might remember Thielen’s 10 straight games of 100 yards.  Last year he was banged up.  Minus Stefon Diggs and he’ll be a target monster.  Would not be surprised if he finishes 2nd in targets right behind Adams.  At the 4/5 turn you went Kareem Hunt (was targeting him) and D’Andre Swift.  Solid picks in my opinion.  If Chubb goes down, Hunt could be a league winner.  He offers flex viability most weeks, which is the sweet spot.  Swift could take over Lions backfield and contribute right away.  He’ll have to fight off Kerryon Johnson and Adrian Peterson.  Speaking of Kerryon Johnson, that was Tommy’s 6th pick.  Getting Gronk in the 7th.  Now I had other tight ends ranked much higher than Gronk, but he’s fun.  And you want to watch players that are fun on your fantasy team.  I’m dropping you in your grade, but it’s fun.  Round 8 pick of Jamison Crowder was great value.  Tom Brady in the 9th.  Should be interesting to watch this little experiment.  Does Brady flash signs of Manning when he went to Denver with two stud wideouts and balled out?  OR does he show signs of Manning his last year in Denver when he was throwing ducks and was carried by their defense?  I think the former.  Wouldn’t that be something if Brady-Gronk combo outscored Brad’s Mahomes-Kelce combo?  Wouldn’t that be something.  I was baffled by the Vikings D/ST pick in the 12.  They are terrible.  They lost Griffin, corners are garbage.  I took Butker in the 12th, but at least he’s a top person in his position and not inevitably 20th+.  Tommy ended his draft drafting 2 more Quarterbacks.  Both of which who will be outscored by Tyrod Taylor who currently sits on waivers.  Idiot.

Draft Grade: B-.  Team could be an F, but could be an A+.  Major offenses was Vikings D and taking 3 quarterbacks.

  • Brad.  Ah yes.  The 4th spot.  Top 3 Running Backs and then… good luck.  I chose Derrick Henry after doing an analysis on him, Kamara, and CEH.  Cook was not an option for me, I’ll explain at Kenny’s pick.  Kamara had the best offensive line of the 3, but one of the toughest schedules.  Add in the injuries from last year and a contract dispute and I moved him back.  Clyde is going to be a hell of a player this year and many to come.  Offensive line is even with Titans, but his schedule is much harder.  Which brought me to Henry.  Plays Jacksonville twice and they traded away everybody on their defense that was worth anything.  Reports from camp were Henry has been working on his pass catching ability.  If he is able to get 30+ catches and not regress too much in the touchdown department, Brad might make out okay with this pick.  In the 2nd I went with Travis Kelce.  Kelce has been #1 Tight End for like 3 or 4 years in a row.  I felt like the Tight End position was a lot deeper this year, but Kelce has been a model of consistency.  In the 3rd I should’ve taken James Conner, but I just couldn’t resist the Mahomes-Kelce connection.  There is only one Qb in the league that could potentially throw 60 touchdowns.  His name is Patrick Mahomes.  I think he’s going to get a few screen passes to CEH that he will get long touchdowns from.  In a deep Qb position, this too doesn’t have the allure of yesteryear, but we’ll see.  Especially considering Tyrod Taylor is available right now and you are all idiots.  4th Round Moose snagged his second wideout that shouldn’t have fallen to him in Allen Robinson.  I was very pleased to get Terry McLaurin with hopes to pair him up with TY Hilton.  Hilton got snagged by Mike, and Hunt who I liked got snagged by Tommy followed by Singletary and Swift, so I decided to get my Rb2 before my Wr2.  A decision that might cost me.  But I got Antonio Gibson.  Rookie, slated to start for the Washington Football Team, but I’m not sure whether it’s at running back or not.  He could play in the slot, running back, reverses, does returns.  It’ll be an  interesting experiment to say the least.  Panicking after Marquise Brown and Will Fuller went I took JK Dobbins, rookie from Baltimore.  Then the next few picks I picked highest ranked person available.  Gallup (#2 on Cowboys high octane offense), Edelman (Quietly Wr#10 last year), and James White (he’s not sexy, but if you need 9 fantasy points, he’ll get you exactly 9 fantasy points).  Loved DeSean Jackson in the 10th round.  In games against his former team he’s averaged 4.6 receptions, 98.8 yards, and 0.625 touchdowns.  Week 1- enter Washington, a former team.  Liked Darrel Williams in the 13th, but drafting a kicker in the 12th over Boston Scott is unforgiveable.

Draft Grade: C.  Giving in to temptation lead him to start Rb-TE-Qb when I could’ve started Henry-Thielen-Conner.  Team might make the playoffs, but will be middle of the pack.

  • Moose.  I’m so sick of watching this league do Moose favors in the draft.  It’s like you want him to Threepeat.  You want the pain of watching him win.  One person in particular is going to get reamed for Moose’s team.  But I’ll leave that for later.  Moose takes Kamara, which is fine.  I probably would’ve gone CEH in this position.  Another reason I didn’t draft Kamara:  Taysom Hill in at Qb.  Kamara and Ty Montgomery in the backfield.  Cook at Tight End, Emmanuel Sanders on one end, Mike Thomas on another.  Taysom throws it back to Sanders, who throws it to Ty Montgomery for a sick score.  I want to watch that play and enjoy it.  I don’t want to go “Fuck!  Give it to Kamara!”.  In the 2nd Moose is gifted with Julio Jones.  Julio should’ve gone before 4 players that went prior to him falling into Moose’s lap.  He’s still a beast and Atlanta will still throw a lot.  In the 3rd Moose gets Lamar Jackson back.  The other cheat code from a year ago who finished with 432.4 fantasy points where the #2 Qb finished with 363.3.  Not as big of a gap as RB, but still a great advantage.  Can the MVP repeat his success?  Why not?  Brad had two chances to prevent this from happening.  But here we are.  Lamar-Kamara-Julio to start.  In the 4th round he was gifted with Allen Robinson.  A-Rob, despite terrible Qb play, finished 11th last year.  And he somehow went after Kupp, Sutton, and Woods at wideout.  In the 5th Moose takes Cam Akers, thus finally ending his Darrell Henderson curse from a year ago.  But he didn’t learn his lesson from last year.  Rams rookie running backs struggle to pick up McVay’s system.  They’ll start with Brown as the starter and mix in Cam Akers.  But then Henderson will get healed up and be back.  I think he too panicked a little bit and wanted to secure his Rb2, taking Akers over Metcalf, Ridley, Lockett, and Chark.  This one might hurt him.  In the 6th he took Ronald Jones II, who will be useful for a couple games maybe.  Too many mouths to feed in that backfield, so this had to be more of a mental game versus Chase who took Fournette than actual faith in Rojo.  Moose got Darren Waller in the 7th, a decent tight end who finished #2 last year.  Then he took Zach Moss in the 8th round, a pick I wrote down prior to the draft.  I had Moss slated to be taken at pick 93.  But with Moose picking at 92 I wrote down Moose will most likely take.  He took a couple cardinals, couple wideouts and there we have it.

Draft Grade: B+.  He’ll compete, but Rb2/Flex has left some to be desired.

  • Kenny.  Dalvin Cook.  Dunh Dunh dunh…. It’s a trap!  Cook is in the middle of a contract dispute.  In addition, a physical therapist/fantasy analyst showed data earlier this summer about Cook’s specific shoulder injury.  Said without surgery chance or reinjury is about 30-40%.  Given the volume he’s anticipated I think it’s not a question of if Dalvin Cook gets hurt, but when.  Kenny took Tyreek Hill in the second, trying to recreate Brad’s top scoring team from a year ago.  Lightning in a bottle, but had some health concerns as well.  In the third Kenny took Todd Gurley, making sure he is able to take full advantage of the additional IR slot we all voted on.  I mean my God Kenny.  Taking Melvin Gordon in the 4th wasn’t as bad.  He should be used for goal line work and catch some passes on Denver.  Even with a split with Lindsay it wasn’t the worst pick.  Liked DK Metcalf in the 5th.  Good value there.  Round 6 you took Stefon Diggs.  Diggs finished 17th last year.  But not sure how he’ll adjust from Kirk Cousins to Josh Allen at Qb.  I love Allen, but because he can run and he’ll throw a touchdown now and then.  His down the field accuracy is terrible, which I’d imagine would be Diggs forte’.  John Brown will probably be more consistent.  In the 7th you took Matt Breida.  Some analysts love him.  Think he has a chip on his shoulder and the Breida-Howard tandem will do well for Miami.  Round 8 you went with Tyler Higbee.  If he is able to replicate how he finished last season look out.  He averaged 19.5 fantasy points per game in the last 5 games of the season.  Now that was with a bunch of injuries to other pass catchers and during a lost season.  But if he does… could be a great value pick.  Thought you got good value with Ruggs and Preston Williams.  I liked how you finished your draft.

Draft Grade: B-.  Too many oft-injured players and too many players on new teams.  But has some pieces to work with and enough potential to compete.

  • Joe!  You slut.  I drafted you in my division and you repay me by drafting a somewhat competent team!  CEH was a great pick in the first round.  Andy Reid’s new Brian Westbrook with Le’Veon’s elusiveness.  He’ll be a top 5 pick next year and you’ll enjoy the ride this season.  In the second round I thought Hill and Julio were better choices than Evans.  Just not sure how Brady is going to divvy up the rock in this new offense.  Plus he’s Lattimore’s bitch and should start week 1 with a terrible outing.  In the 3rd you got JuJu who I love for a bounce back season.  If Big Ben stays healthy, with that defense, this team will be title contenders.  For Rb2 you went Jonathan Taylor.  I like Taylor a lot and I think the Colts will run a lot.  But if has to stave off Marlon Mack on early downs and Nyheim Hines on 3rd downs.  You know how Rivers loves to check down.  (See Ekeler’s previous seasons).  If I was a GM, would I want to run my rookie rb into the ground or would I prefer to burn the tires on Marlon Mack knowing we won’t resign him after this year?  I think Mack will get a ton of work.  Ridley in the 5th round was a really good pick.  He was 27th last year, but don’t assume all Austin Hooper’s targets will just go to Hayden Hurst.  Ridley has a chance to take a step forward in Year 3.  AJ Green in the 6th.  Worth a flyer with Burrow throwing.  We’ll see if he actually gets healthy and plays.  You drafted a defense in Round 8.  I love the Steelers D/ST.  I think they could be nasty this year.  For this draft capital, they better be.  Couple flyers at Rb, Big Ben was great value in the 12th.  Ebron might be my favorite pick of yours.  Overall.  Solid job.

Draft Grade: A.  I don’t see a weakness.  Steeler’s stack provides great value.  You did really good Joe.

  • Trey.  Before I get to these grades I just want to start out by saying I love you as a friend, colleague, and mentor.  You have a beautiful family and you’re a great leader who I respect and I want nothing but happiness for you and yours man.  I really mean that.  I truly hope you don’t take what comes next personally.  With all that being said, I think you absolutely bombed this draft.  I mean.  It’s like when I tried to cram in college for the Relationship Studies class final exam and I got a 52 on it.  I almost couldn’t graduate, I had to do extra credit and talk to my professor just to graduate in 4 years without having to do summer school.  Like… this is really bad.  Like on the office when Kevin brings in the big pot of chili and drops it all over the carpet and falls in it bad.  Josh Jacobs was a mid to low 2nd round pick in my opinion.  Gruden brought in 15 different 3rd down running backs in the offseason to clearly let the world know this dude will not be on the field on 3rd down.  Players I had ranked higher than Jacobs that you passed on and the order: Sanders, Mixon, Thomas, Adams, Ekeler, Hill, Julio, Drake, Chubb.  It’s almost like you passed on having a first round pick.  Then.  More egregious than the first round, in round 2 you selected Chris Carson.  He is coming off hip surgery, they signed Carlos Hyde who will get work, and much of the offseason has been swirling rumors about the Seahawks passing on early downs more.  They tried to get the hashtag #letrusscook going.  Players I would have drafted over Carson and the order: Hill, Julio, Kelce, Kittle, Thielen, James Connor, DJ Moore, Evans, Godwin, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, JuJu, Odell and probably more.  I’m going to try and look at the rest of your draft with a fresh lens and pretend the first two picks didn’t happen.  Odell in the 3rd is good.  I think he has a much better season than last year.  Ingram is a good value pick in the 4th round.  Dobbins hasn’t earned anything yet.  It’s still Ingram’s backfield.  Tyler Boyd in the 5th was a little bit of a reach for me.  I liked Lockett , Chark, Brown and Fuller better, but I get the allure with Burrow.  Will Fuller in the 6th broke my heart.  I wanted him or Brown and you snagged him!  If he stays healthy he could be a top 10 wideout.  It’s a big IF, but enjoy him while you have him.  I know I enjoyed him last year during that 50+ point explosion against Atlanta.  Delicious.  More great value in Marvin Jones Jr in the 7th.  Decent Wr 3.  Diontae Johnson was a good flyer in the 8th.  Lots of buzz this offseason.  Hayden Hurst should do well in Atlanta.  I don’t think he does what Hooper did last year, but I think he is going to be solid.  Ravens D/ST in the 10th.  I don’t know what to make of the Raven’s D.  They add Calais Campbell which is huge, but then lose Earl Thomas.  Plus division got better around them.  Steelers get Big Ben back, Bengals get Burrow.  Browns upgraded offensive line significantly.  It’ll be interesting to see.  You got your quarterbacks in rounds 11 and 12.  Great value in Stafford and Cam.  I think you’ll be pleased. Gesicki was great in the 13th.  He was a target of mine.

Draft Grade: C+.  I think you wiffed on the first two.  But you really did a great job getting value in the mid and late rounds.  This gives you a decent starting lineup with some firepower and above average depth.  It’ll take a lot of managing, but you can make some noise if you play your cards right.

  • Chase.  I made quite a bit of money in the stock market.  I did that by selling stocks when the market is very high and buying stocks when the market is very low.  When people zig, I zag.  That’s exactly what Chase did here.  While everyone got caught up in the Rb sweepstakes Chase took Michael Thomas and Davante Adams to start his draft.  I actually have Adams as my Wr #1 this year.  These two could approach 300 targets and targets= potential.  One of the stat nerds I follow on Twitter did analysis of Wide Receivers ability to get open.  Adams was the far superior wideout in the league.  Chase will compete.  In the 3rd he took Chrsi Godwin.  Some say his skillset is perfect for Brady.  I think Chase would have been better off taking Bell Cow James Conner here, but having Godwin took take of is flex to start the year.  When Conner went to Scotty in the 4th Chase got his first Rb and he chose Le’Veon Bell.  Adam Gase hates Le’Veon Bell.  Adam Gase might be fired by midseason, so maybe Bell does well back half of the year.  But Frank Gore will spell him.  Gore energizes the team.  It’s inspirational to see a 35+ year old score in the NFL.  Same thing in Arizona with Larry Fitz.  Gore will be annoying this season.  Bell should get 15-20 touches per game, on a bad Jets team.  In Round 5 Chase took Leonard.  Fournette might get goal line carries, but man.  He had so many goal line carries last year and couldn’t score.  Like… he did really really bad.  Bucs offensive line should be better than Jacksonville, but jesus.  Whole situation is gross.  He should receive more carries than Rojo sooner rather than later this season.  He is better than Rojo.  In Round 6 Raheem Mostert.  I think the Niners will continue to rotate in backs.  Jerick McKinnon is still alive somehow.  Tevin Coleman is there.  I think Mostert will get most of the work.  Coleman will rotate in drives and McKinnon will take over some 3rd down stuff.  He should be serviceable some weeks.  In Round 7 you took #LetRussCook.  I still think Dak Prescott will outscore Wilson (again), so you missed here.  But he’s still a solid quarterback and better than Murray who Mike took 8 picks prior.  Liked Marlon Mack in the 8th.  (See Joe’s team on Jonathan Taylor for my Mack opinion).  Did decent rest of the way.

Draft Grade: A-.  That Thomas-Adams duo is just fucking beautiful.

  1. Scotty.  You must’ve eaten your Wheaties before this draft because you were not messing around!  I thought Ekeler was a bit of a reach in the 1st.  I liked Mixon, Adams, and Sanders better.  But if you took Sanders at 10 and Ekeler at 15 you’d still wind up the same, so I’m not going to dock you anything.  That’s a great duo.  Sanders was great to watch last year.  You’ll be annoyed with how much Boston Scott plays, but Sanders can do it all.  Run, catch, break tackles, elude defenders.  Very well done.  Cooper Kupp in the 3rd was okay.  I’m not a fan.  He was #4 last year and has great report with Jared Goff, but I liked Woods and Cooper a little better.  In the 4th you got what everyone will refer to as the Steal of the Draft in James Conner.  Last year he was a 1st round pick.  Big Ben got hurt and the Steelers almost limped into the playoffs with Duck Hodges at Qb.  Conner is a true bell cow.  He’ll get 70%+ of the work.  And this pick secures you as having the best Rb Trio in the league.  Ekeler-Sanders-Conner.  Nasty.  In Round 5 you got Tyler Lockett, another person who has great chemistry with their Qb.  Maybe your team name should be Total Chemistry instead of Total Domination.  (Dad jokes are a disease I’m seeking help).  Landry was meh in the 6th round.  I think Hooper and Kareem Hunt kind of sandwich Landry’s sweet spot in the short to medium routes.  I just don’t see it this season.  Then in the 7th.  You got #2 fantasy Qb from a year ago and probably #2 or #3 Qb this year in Dak Prescott.  He loses Randall Cobb and Jason Witten, but gains CeeDee Lamb and a coach that isn’t going to try and interfere with the offensive coordinator’s jive.  Emmanuel Sanders pick was usless.  You took him before Edelman and Crowder.  That’s really bad.  Jared Cook in the 9th is about right.  D/ST in the 10th was meh.

Draft Grade: A.  Lost the plus with Landry and Sanders picks, but think this is team is the favorite to win Division 3.  Tommy, Chase, and Mike are all solid.  But Scotty’s trio of Rb’s are the real deal.

  1. JD.  Drake and Jones to start.  They both did well last year.  I liked Mixon better than Drake and Sanders better than both of them.  Drake was awesome for Arizona.  He’s a little banged up but I think he does well this year.  Jones will be frustrating to watch.  Ask Scotty.  He gets like 12-15 touches per game.  AJ Dillon and Jamaal Williams will eat some.  Jones survived on Touchdowns last year.  It might be asking too much to expect the same output.  Regression is inevitable.  But I would take this duo over Trey’s duo every day of the week.  I don’t particularly like the Courtland Sutton over Cooper and Woods pick.  Sutton is in Denver with Drew Lock.  But they also have two running backs, Noah Fant, Jerry Jeudy.  Kind of a lot of mouths to feed.  Mark Andrews will be fun to watch.  Watching him jump up and snagging touchdowns from Lamar was beautiful.  Absolutely loved your wideout selections in Rounds 5 and 6.  DJ Chark do do do do do (to the sound of baby shark or baby shark faster version or hiccups baby shark or God help all parents of toddlers who listen to this shit all day everyday).  Marquise Brown put on some muscle this offseason.  His diet is legit.  I wanted him bad in the 6th round, but you gobbled him up.  Shepherd should be the #1 Wideout for the Giants.  Lindsay is a good value in the 8th round.  Co-starters are legit.  Robby Anderson sucks.  Start him he’ll get you 0.  Bench him he’ll go off for 30.  Just drop him now and thank me later.  Mattison in the 10th round.  The most important handcuff in the game right there.  Hold on to him with your life.  Last year when Mahomes got hurt I offered Chase Josh Allen then a Top 5 Qb for Mattison (Cook wasn’t hurt yet) and he refused.  That’s the value of an elite handcuff.  Great flyers throughout and Dallas Kicker-D/ST stack.

Draft Grade: A.  I thought drafting you and Joe would lead to kicker bowls.  Instead I might finish 3rd or last in the damn division.

  1. Katon.  Although I appreciate you changing your team name to “Just here to Pay dues” you still haven’t paid your dues lol.  I know you’re good for it.  Just send me $100 of that popcorn your daughter was selling and we’ll be square.  Chubb and Mixon is a great 1-2 punch.  Tough division, and Chubb will lose a lot to Kareem Hunt, but offensive line is much improved.  Mixon just got paid and they figured out how to use him end of last year.  Too little too late for Mike unfortunately.  Cooper-Woods combo is a great Wr duo.  I think you got a solid foursome to start your draft.  Didn’t care of Keenan Allen or David Montgomery picks.  Allen is on the Chargers who will slow things down on offense.  Montgomery is already hurt and playing behind Trubisky (barfs).  Thought you got good value with Parker and Engram.  Daniel Jones will look to Engram early and often.  Decent value late.

Draft Grade: B.  Not sexy, but will compete most weeks.  Outside chance of winning D1, the weakest division.

In Order:

Week 2 Recap & Week 3 Preview

King Mustafa (2-0) 141.5 vs. Katon (0-2) 97.2

Moose almost was top scorer for his second week in a row until Chase came out of nowhere with a huge Monday night game with Odell.  Moose is top scorer so far this season however, having scored 295.7 points in the first two weeks to start the year.  Katon couldn’t quite get it going this week with another underwhelming performance from Devonta Freeman, an injury to Michael Gallup and Delanie Walker coming back down to Earth from his monster week 1 outing.  Lamar Jackson is averaging 35.1 fantasy points per game for Moose.

Brad (2-0) 134.2 vs. Jen (0-2) 96.4

Brad has scored a consistent 132.1 and 134.2 to start the season, averaging 133.2 game.  A big 24.3 point outing from Chris Godwin set the tone for this matchup as Jen wasn’t able to overcome her terrible number of injuries.  Some bright spots for her is Terry McLaurin looks to be a great free agent find (Wr#5 after 2 weeks) and Calvin Ridley had a big outing on SNF with 22.7.  She’ll be hoping Kittle and DJ start scoring like they can and should.

Joe (0-2) 71.3 vs. JD (2-0) 114.5

Joe’s team didn’t show up to this one.  Had he taken my advice and done a kicker bowl he would have won it, but CMC getting 6.1 on TNF pretty much sealed his fate.  Getting a combined 0.7 from Dede Westbrook and DeSean Jackson didn’t help matters.  JD got 27.5 from Dak Prescott who is looking like a great value to start the year.  His starting running backs combined for 15.3 and he still was able to defeat Joe by 43.2 points.  Bright spot for Joe was Antonio Brown looked like… Antonio Brown.

Scotty (1-1) 128.5 vs. Mike (0-2) 100.9

Scotty rode the NE Patriots D/ST to the tune of 37 points this week.  He also got 25.6 from Aaron Jones and 24.5 from Tom Brady.  Mike is kicking himself for picking Mixon over Dalvin Cook so far this season as Mixon has scored 6.4 fantasy points through two weeks.  With the injury to Brees, his first round pick Mike Thomas takes a hit and Mike has more questions than answers after this week.

Kenny (2-0) 98.1 vs. Trey (1-1) 66.7

Kenny has been an enigma so far this season.  He has scored the 3rd fewest points in the league and yet sits 2-0.  His points against are at 152.6 compared to Jen’s at 288.4 (difference of 135.8 or 89% increase over Kenny’s PA).  In this league, we don’t care how we get the wins, as long as we get them.  Kenny lost Big Ben in this matchup, but got carried by Barkley with 23.7 and Kenny Golladay with 23.9.  Trey had 7 players in single digits and his highest scorer was Aaron Rodgers at 14.2.  Not going to win many games like that.

Chase (1-1) 142.4 vs. Tommy (1-1) 103.4)

Chase came out of nowhere to pass Moose and Brad up to be the highest scorer for the week, thanks to Odell Beckham Jr. doing Odell Beckham Jr. things.  OBJ scored 29.5 including an 89-yard touchdown.  Chase had Julio (29.6), OBJ (29.5) and Mahomes (36.5) combine for 95.6 points, almost enough to take out Tommy by themselves.  Tommy got a respectable 14.9 from Le’Veon despite Trevor Seimen starting and a Qb named Falk finishing the game.  Tommy has to be concerned with having Jared Cook, Saints D/ST, and Wil Lutz with the injury to Drew Brees, but a bright spot on his team is TY Hilton averaging 17.9 fantasy points after two weeks and Derrick Henry averaging 23.2 and being ranked #3 Rb in Fantasy.

Week 3 Preview:

***Game of the Week***

King Mustafa (2-0) vs. Brad (2-0)

The #1 Scorer vs. the #2 Scorer after two weeks face off in an epic battle for Division bragging rights.  Both teams striving for that coveted 3-0.  Although this matchup looks good on paper, it doesn’t take long to dive in and see that Moose is the heavy favorite in this one.  Lamar Jackson who is averaging 35.1 fantasy points per game faces Kansas City in what could be the highest scoring game of the season.  He also has Travis Kelce (TE#2) in this matchup and could opt to use Mark Andrews(TE#1) in the flex.  In addition, he has Amari Cooper vs. Miami’s 3 First Round Picks in 2020, 2 Second Round Picks in 2020, 2 First Round Picks in 2021, 2 Second Round picks in 2021, you get the picture…. They are in full tank mode and as fantasy managers it’s our job to start every single person you can against Miami players and dump every Dolphins player you may have accidentally drafted.  In addition to that juicy-ass matchup, Moose has DJ Moore @ Arizona.  Arizona’s secondary has gotten torched by Matt Stafford and Lamar Jackson and now they get a struggling Cam Newton.  Despite Cam’s struggles DJ Moore is averaging 10.5 fantasy points per game and has 24 targets after two weeks.  Meaning his production is only a matter of time.  What better time than against Arizona defense minus Patrick Peterson?  Looking over at Brad’s side he has Josh Allen vs. Cincinnati or Russell Wilson at home vs. the Saints minus Drew Brees.  The Bills-Cincy game opened at 40.5 O/U but has climbed up to 44, Saints-Seattle game opened at 50 O/U but has dropped to 44.5, so good luck with that shit.  I might flip a coin.  Conner has a banged up knee and travels to the West coast to face a surprising 2-0 49ers team.  Carson is at home vs. the Saints, Godwin faces NYG, and Evan Engram (TE#3) faces Tampa Bay with Daniel “Danny Dimes” Jones taking over the starting gig for Eli Manning.  Brad’s only hope lies in Dalvin Cook, who Moose passed on at the ½ turn, against Oakland.  Cook is fantasy’s #1 Running back after two weeks with scores of 27.8 and 31.3.  Oakland has been stingy against the run in the first two weeks, only giving up 12.6 average points to fantasy running backs when the NFL average is 19.8. That’s good for 4th best in the league in stopping opposing fantasy rb’s.  Like I said, on paper close, but after further review, Moose wins this one, big.

Katon (0-2) vs. Jen (0-2)

On the other side of Division 1 we have two 0-2 teams searching for their first win.  These teams are #1 and #2 in Points Against to start the season after facing Moose and Brad.  Katon has Zeke against Miami in Dallas and he may break the single game rushing record for most rushing yards in a game this week.  Jen is battling so many injuries, it’s hard to imagine she escapes that one matchup alone this week.

***Rivalry Game***

JD (2-0) vs. Tommy (1-1)

Is this a battle over who is the better hunter or a battle over pretend football?  Either way, it’s going to be good!  JD has Dak Prescott vs. Miami in Dallas and he may break the single game rushing record for most rushing yards by a Quarterback in a single week.  He also has both running backs in the Bal @ KC matchup.   Tommy has Le’Veon @ New England.  I wonder if they are going to try taking Le’Veon out of the of gameplan or concentrate on the Qb Luke Falk?  It’s Bell, they are shutting down Bell, okay!  Tommy was most recently spotted wearing Tennessee Titans gear and he has Derrick Henry @ Jacksonville.  You may recall that it was against Jacksonville that Henry had his ultra-super-mega-epic almost 50 fantasy point scoring week last year.  To win this one, Tommy might need that to happen again…

Trey (1-1) vs. Mike (0-2)

In Week 1 Mike scored 85.9 and in Week 2 Trey scored 66.7.  ESPN opens up the projected score at 103.5 to 103.6, which is obviously the closest projected matchup of the week.  Trey has Dallas D/ST against Miami who just gave up 37 fantasy points to New England… at home.  Before they traded their starting safety… Mike has Mixon @ Buffalo and Michael Thomas @ Seattle.  He has Jag D/ST vs. Tennessee.  Are you sure?  Mike I’m worried about you.  You keep starting Jaguars D/ST and they’ve scored 6 points in 2 weeks.  That’s not good Mike.  Derrick Henry went off against them last year.  Do you remember Mike?  Do you remember the 200+ yard 3 touchdown game from Derrick Henry last year against Jacksonville?  Whatever, Yolo, am I right?

Chase (1-1) vs. Joe (0-2)

Chase has Patrick Mahomie in the Baltimore shootout, and Hollywood Brown @ KC, who might be for real.  My brother, Andy, sent me a video of Hollywood hanging out with Lamar Jackson after the game on Sunday, so it appears as though they are good friends… incredible pickup prior to Week 1.  (That’s right, Chase picked up him prior to Week 1, before the big game, and the second big game.  Chase has done it again- cue Britney Spears singing “Oops I did it again…”).  Chiefs D/ST vs. Baltimore.  Yeah Chase is getting a new D/ST this week…. For sure.  He has Cowboys kicker vs. Miami, so he may break the single game record for most points by a kicker in a single game.  Joe has whatever quarterback he picks up off waivers versus whoever they play, Christian McCaffrey @ Arizona.  Antonio Brown vs. the Jets unless he gets suspended or something comes of him being accused of fucking rape.  Looking at the matchup it certainly appears Joe needs help.  Wouldn’t be surprised to see a desperation trade out of Joe, which may be difficult given his best asset is untradeable Christian McCaffrey.

Kenny (2-0) vs. Scotty (1-1)

Kenny is 2-0 despite being 3rd lowest scoring team in the league.  He has Saquon who gets elevated with a shimmer of hope from Daniel Jones getting his first career start.  This Tampa team was able to slow down CMC last week, but can they contain Barkley?  Thielen faces Oakland, Golladay @ Philly and Zach Ertz vs. Detroit.  Don’t sleep on Harrison Butker’s ability to score big in this one.  Unstoppable offense vs. somewhat decent defense.  Scotty has a now week in and week out stud in Tom Brady who has the best receiving corps in all of football.  Kamara takes a hit with Brees injury (maybe?).  Fournette plays Ten on TNF.  Sammy Watkins in the shootout game, TJ Hockensen vs. Philly.  Patriots D/ST get NYJ being quarterbacked by Luke Falk a week after playing Miami.  It’s not even fair at this point… Will Kenny’s luck streak continue?

Good luck to all, but Moose this week!

My 15th Year of Fantasy Football

Hey There Sports Fans!

This is my first ever official “blog” but don’t let that fool you.  I have been writing about fantasy football since 2001.  In my league message boards I’ve written everything from weekly predictions, power rankings, draft analysis, season predictions, sleepers/busts, rookies to watch out for, and drafting strategies that work.  I averaged writing over 1500-2000 words at least per week about fantasy football.  With that amount of experience I have learned a lot of ways to be successful and a lot of ways to not be successful when playing fantasy football.  There are a few people in each of the leagues that I play in that continually swirl at the bottom of the rankings and others that are consistent contenders year in and year out.  Why?  Read future posts to find out.  In one league we are approaching its 15th season.  In 15 years I have won the championship once and been to the Super Bowl 4 times.  In another league started 6 years ago, I have made it to the Super Bowl 4 times and have won it twice.  I’m the commissioner of both leagues, so I know what it takes to help people get leagues going and how to stimulate the smack talk with the league seems to be getting a bit dull or owners seem disinterested.

If you’re not convinced that you should be reading this blog weekly (maybe daily during football season) then maybe some stats could convince you otherwise:

These leagues will be used as examples/debatable topics in the future:

Mandeville League: (Since 2006 since years 2001-2005 were lost to expired yahoo accounts) 62-64 Record (1-3 in Super Bowls)  Scoring System: Old School- Qb Td- 4, .25/1 Yard Passing- 1, Rb/Wr Td- 6, .1/yard, NO DEFENSE, Kickers- 3’s, 1’s, and -1’s.

BBY Dream Team League: (Since 2009) 48-30 Record (2-2 in Super Bowls) Scoring System: New- Partial PPR, Defenses, Bonuses for 100,200,and 300 yard games, big play bonuses, field goals are extra for longer kicks.

Some of the best drafted players that I knew would do well:

Matt Schaub 2009.  Led my team to a Super Bowl victory.  Schaub had been injured the previous season and I drafted him in Round 10.  He finished the season as a top 5 qb.

Matt Stafford and Darren Sproles 2011.  Led my team to a Super Bowl victory.  Stafford was also injured in 2010, but in those two games he started in 2009 he threw for over 300 yards in each, which made the decision to draft him in Round 10 worth it, especially considering he threw for over 5000 yards in 2011.  Sproles finished his first season with the Saints with 603 rushing yards, 2 rushing td’s, 86 receptions, 710 yards receiving, and 7 receiving touchdowns.

Peyton Manning 2012.  Led my team to a Super Bowl loss.  How typical of Peyton.  He’s such a tease, but I drafted him in his first season in Denver and it paid off as he finished the season with 4659 yards and 37 td’s.  Do you see a pattern?  Injured players drop in fantasy drafts the following season and provide good value.  How have more people not figured that out?!?!I finished the regular season with an 11-2 record.

Jamaal Charles and Anquan Boldin 2013.  Lead my team to a Super Bowl loss.  These aren’t as good “sleeper” picks as the others, but Boldin balled out as Kaepernick’s favorite target in 2013 and Jamaal Charles scored 59.7 points in Week 15 of the playoffs shooting me to my 3rd straight Super Bowl appearance in the BBY Dream Team League.

Andrew Luck and Jeremy Maclin 2014.  Lead my team to an 8-5 record and 1st Round Playoff loss.  I drafted Jeremy Maclin in all 4 leagues I played in this past year.  All four.  I had 100% confidence that he would have a good season.  For those of you who did not draft Maclin in the mid rounds here are some signs that you missed in the offseason: DeSean Jackson had 82 receptions, 1332 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns in 2013; his first (and only) season in Chip Kelly’s offense.  He was cut from the team.  Maclin missed all of 2013 due to injury (hey! it happened again!).  He became the #1 Wr once Jackson was cut. 2014 was a contract year for Maclin.  Where did you think those 82-1332-9 numbers were going to go to?  Riley Cooper?  Really?  Also, Andrew Luck.  I figured this would be the last season where you could draft Luck in rounds 3-5 because he’s been becoming a better fantasy qb every season he’s been in the league.  The guy can straight ball out.  He’s now been Top 10 in 2012, Top 5 in 2013, to #1 in 2014.

I’m going to be writing about fantasy football because it’s my hobby, it’s my passion, and I love doing it.  I will not always be right, nobody ever is.  Remember, every day moves are being made and players’ situations are changing.  Paying attention all offseason in preparation for the draft next summer is key to success.  Looking forward to future posts!
